Abstract:
We report the classification of AT2020pzz as a Type IIn SN.

AT2020pzz (ATLAS20udk, ZTF20ablwaoe) was observed on the 10th August 2020 with the blue arm of the Low Resolution Spectrograph-2 (LRS2-B) mounted on the Hobby Eberly Telescope (HET) at McDonald Observatory, Texas. The spectrum was integrated for 1800s and had a wavelength coverage of 3640-6950 AA.

The spectrum shows multi-component (broad and narrow) emission features of the Balmer series, and broad He I 5876 AA. Spectroscopic classification was performed with SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007 2007ApJ...666.1024B). The nine best matching templates are of Type IIn SNe at a redshift of z=0.090. We note that this spectroscopic redshift differs by >3σ from the photometric redshift of the faint host galaxy (z=0.331±0.073) that is available on the SDSS DR16 webpage. The ZTF light curve is consistent with a SN IIn currently around maximum light.
