Abstract:
Here we report the discovery of 24 transient objects as part of the Pan-STARRS Survey for Transients (PSST) found by citizen scientists involved in the Supernova Hunters Zooniverse Project. This took place during the Cosmic Shambles Network 24 hour online event - Nine Lessons and Carols for Socially Distanced People on 2020-12-12. This report includes classifications of 1 SN Ia-91bg-like and 1 SN 87A-like object (at the UH 2.2m telescope on Mauna Kea on 2020-12-13) and 1 CV (Liverpool Telescope on 2020-12-12), along with 21 unclassified transients.

As part of a collaboration with the Cosmic Shambles Network: Nine Lessons and Carols for Socially Distanced People 24 hour event, we report the discovery of 24 optical transients found by citizen scientists using the Supernova Hunters Zooniverse Project.

The transients include 1 SN Ia-91bg-like supernova and 1 SN 87A-like supernova (at the UH 2.2m telescope on Mauna Kea on 2020-12-12) and 1 CV (Liverpool Telescope on 2020-12-12), along with 21 unclassified objects.

The discoveries from this program are a byproduct of the Pan-STARRS NEO survey observations. In normal survey mode, Pan-STARRS takes 4 x 45s exposures in w, i or z each night reaching 5 sigma magnitudes of w<22, i<21 and z<20.5 in each frame (see Chambers et al. 2016, 1612.05560). Operation of the Pan-STARRS1 and Pan-STARRS2 telescopes is primarily supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under Grant No. NNX12AR65G and Grant No. NNX14AM74G issued through the SSO Near-Earth Object Observations Program. Data are processed at Queen's University Belfast enabled through the STFC grants ST/P000312/1 and ST/T000198/1.
