A. Bellinghausen, R. Nowell report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.

IAU Designation: AT 2000gj
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 02:24:31.872 (36.1328) DEC = -09:05:36.60 (-9.0935)
Discovery date: 2000-11-18 04:43:48 (JD=2451866.6970833)

Potential host galaxy: SDSS J022432.65-090549.1
Host redshift: 0.052

Remarks: This transient was first noticed on the Galaxy Zoo website in a discussion started by participant Angelika Bellinghausen. Other participant is: Richard Nowell. The link to that discussion is here: https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/zookeeper/galaxy-zoo/talk/subjects/21667986 . The DECaLS browser link where the image can be found is here: http://www.legacysurvey.org/viewer?ra=36.1328&dec=-9.0935&zoom=15&layer=sdss2 .

Photometry

Discovery (first detection):
Discovery date: 2000-11-18 04:43:48
Flux: 21.25 ABMag
Filter: g-Sloan
Instrument: SDSS-Spec
Telescope: Sloan Digital Sky Survey

Remarks: The SDSS g-band magnitude was calculated using APT and reference star SDSS J022427.58-090450.7 http://skyserver.sdss.org/dr14/en/tools/explore/Summary.aspx?id=1237673701278482561. This star has an SDSS g-band value of 17.74. The flux source intensity was low and gave these results: Ref star: 71.316 Transient: 2.8075. An additional SDSS r-band magnitude calculation was made which resulted in a value of r=21.31.
