R. Nowell, A. Jonkeren report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.

IAU Designation: AT 2002ma
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 11:31:17.472 (172.8228) DEC = -00:58:24.60 (-0.9735)
Discovery date: 2002-12-31 12:38:08 (JD=2452640.0264815)

Potential host galaxy: SDSS J113117.55-005828.8
Host redshift: 0.0639

Remarks: This transient was first noticed on the Galaxy Zoo website in a discussion started by participant greengate. Other participants are: Richard Nowell, Alexander Jonkeren. The discussion is here: https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/zookeeper/galaxy-zoo/talk/subjects/20532815. Photometry

Discovery (first detection):
Discovery date: 2002-12-31 12:38:08
Flux: 19.3525 ABMag
Filter: r-Sloan
Instrument: SDSS-Spec
Telescope: Sloan Digital Sky Survey

Remarks: The Apparent magnitude was calculated using APT and reference star SDSS J113116.82-005847.1 http://cas.sdss.org/dr9/en/tools/explore/obj.asp?id=1237648720153870470. Both AppMag (m) r-band and g-band calculations were made, resulting in r-band as above and g-band = 19.8937. Because the visual image is of poor quality, Absolute magnitude values were calculated. Foreground extinction is included but K Correction is not. The AbMag (M) values are: r-band -18.011 and g-band -17.497, within errors of 1.

Last non-detection:
