Ine Theunissen-Limpens report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.

IAU Designation: AT 2008jc
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 01:06:17.861 (16.574421669) DEC = +04:15:11.95 (4.253319258)
Discovery date: 2008-10-08 09:33:50 (JD=2454747.8984954)

Potential host galaxy: SDSS J010617.95+041509.7
Host redshift: 0.108162

Remarks: This transient was first noticed by Ine Theunissen on the Galaxy Zoo website here: https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/zookeeper/galaxy-zoo/talk/subjects/34209862. In the SDSS catalogue, the object is labelled as a galaxy, but is not in later surveys by DECaLS or PanSTARRS. Melina Thévenot and Richard Nowell also took part in the discussion.

Photometry

Discovery (first detection):
Discovery date: 2008-10-08 09:33:50
Flux: 18.91 ABMag
Filter: r-Sloan
Instrument: SDSS-Spec
Telescope: Sloan Digital Sky Survey

Remarks: The r-band Apparent magnitude was taken from the SDSS photometry. As explained above, in the SDSS catalogue the object is labelled as a galaxy, but is not in later surveys by DECaLS or PanSTARRS. An r-band Absolute magnitude of -19.48 was also calculated.

Last non-detection:
Archival info: SDSS
