Remarks: We obtained a medium resolution optical (320-1000nm) spectrum of ASASSN-16ec/AT2016blv (ATel #8915) on UT 2016 April 8.2 with the Magellan Echellette Spectrograph (MagE) mounted on the Magellan 6.5-m Baade telescope at Las Campanas Observatory. The spectrum of ASASSN-16ec/AT2016blv is that of a Type Ia SN after maximum light. After correcting for the redshift of its host galaxy (z=0.023773 from NED), we measure a Si II expansion velocity of ~11800 km/s.
