StanekASAS-SNCVASAS-SNAn optical spectrum (range 350-760nm) of the supernova candidate ASASSN-16gs/AT2016cyq was obtained on UT 2016 July 8.31 with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST). The spectrum shows a blue continuum with Balmer lines in absorption (H-beta EW~9 Angstroms, FWHM ~ 3000 km/s) at redshift z=0 (v_helio ~ -100 km/s), consistent with a Galactic CV in outburst.
