StanekASAS-SNSN IIASAS-SNAn optical spectrum (range 350-760nm) of the supernova candidate ASASSN-16gy/AT2016cyx was obtained on UT 2016 July 8.5 with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST). The spectrum of ASASSN-16gy shows a blue continuum and broad H Balmer lines in emission, consistent with a young Type II SN.
