ShappeeASAS-SNSN Ia0.0371ASAS-SNWe report optical spectroscopic observation of supernova candidate ASASSN-16pj (ATel #9914, AT 2016jdk) using the du Pont 2.5-m telescope (+ WFCCD) at Las Campanas Observatory on UT 2016-12-30.05. We used SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) to identify the type and phase of the SN spectra. The spectrum matches a normal SN Ia, 4-7 days before maximum. The Si II expansion velocity is ~10700 km/s. The redshift of the host measured from Halpha and [O III] 5007 is z=0.0371, consistent with the SNID-derived SN redshift. consistent with z=0.036.
