S. Pednekar, R. Nowell, A. Jonkeren, R. Jackson, C. Macmillan, W. Keel report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.

IAU Designation: AT 2016jib
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 11:55:50.472 (178.9603) DEC = -02:15:00.72 (-2.2502)
Discovery date: 2016-04-08 03:37:13.000 (JD=2457486.6508449)

Potential host galaxy: SDSS J115550.41-021457.9
Host redshift: 0.345

Remarks: This transient was first noticed on the Galaxy Zoo website in a discussion started by participant Sharad Pednekar. Other participants are: Rick Nowell, CeciliaB, A.F. Jonkeren, Jacko99, ChristineM., W. Keel . The link to the discussion is: . The link to the DECaLS browser image for the transient is: . The host galaxy link is: SDSS J115550.41-021457.9 . Its redshift z=0.345 is an SDSS photometric value.

Discovery (first detection):
Discovery date: 2016-04-08 03:37:13.000
Flux: 20.27 ABMag
Filter: R-Cousins
Instrument: DECAM
Telescope: CTIO - 4-m Victor M. Blanco Telescope

Remarks: The r-band magnitude was calculated using APT. An r-band reference star was used: SDSS J115549.01-021532.9 (DECaLS mag 19.82). The calculated flux values are: transient=5803.5, star=8763.8 .

Last non-detection:
Archival info: SDSS
Remarks: The last DECaLS non-detection I can find is: observed 2016-03-02 06:03:29
