M. Mojstrovich, L. van Vliet, R. Nowell report/s the discovery of a new astronomical transient.

IAU Designation: AT 2017kdr
Coordinates (J2000): RA = 10:12:50.270 (153.20946) DEC = +01:06:45.14 (1.11254)
Discovery date: 2017-03-02 01:01:59 (JD=2457814.543044)

Potential host galaxy: SDSS J101249.79+010635.9
Host redshift: 0.094

Remarks: This transient was first noticed in a discussion started by Mike Mojstrovich (Appleseed) on the Galaxy Zoo website here: https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/zookeeper/galaxy-zoo/talk/subjects/26443409. Participant CeciliaB pointed out the supernova. Other participants are Leonie van Vliet and Richard Nowell.

Photometry

Discovery (first detection):
Discovery date: 2017-03-02 01:01:59
Flux: 22.5 ABMag
Filter: z-Sloan
Instrument: DECAM
Telescope: CTIO - 4-m Victor M. Blanco Telescope

Remarks: The z-band Apparent magnitude was taken from the DECaLS DR7 catalog here:http://www.legacysurvey.org/viewer?ra=153.2094&dec=1.1125&zoom=16&layer=decals-dr7. A z-band Absolute magnitude of -15.65 was also calculated. The magnitude limit was taken from page 11 of the 'Overview of the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys' https://arxiv.org/pdf/1804.08657v1.pdf.
