Michael A. Tucker, Benjamin J. Shappee, Mark E. Huber (IfA, UH Manoa) report/s a classification of object: AT 2018bkn

Type: Varstar

Remarks: The Spectral Classification of Astronomical Transients (SCAT) survey acquired a spectrum of AT2018bkn on MJD 58256.419 from 330-970nm using the SuperNova Integral Field Spectrograph (SNIFS) on the University of Hawaii 88-inch (UH88) telescope. The spectrum resembles that of a star and the transient's location does not coincide with any known galaxy, solidifying the case that the transient is stellar in origin.

The following Classification spectrum was provided:

Obsdate: 2018-05-17 22:03:29
Instrument: SNIFS
Telescope: UH 88inch

Remarks: This spectrum was reduced using an automated "quick-reduction" pipeline and care should be taken before re-using the spectrum for detailed spectral analysis. Wavelength regions contaminated by the dichroic and the A-band absorption trough are omitted from the spectrum.
