Type: SN Ia
Redshift: 0.019213

Remarks: Using Superfit (Howell et al. 2005, ApJ, 634, 1190) and SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024), we find good fits to several young Type Ia supernovae at the redshift of the host galaxy (z=0.019213; value from NED but in agreement with narrow host hydrogen lines). The apparent magnitude reported by ATLAS upon discovery on 2018-12-08 13:59:31 was 18.712 , which corresponds to an absolute magnitude of -15.8 in ATLAS' cyan filter. We measure a Si II 6355 velocity of -15,000 km/s and a Ca II NIR triplet velocity of -25,000 km/s. The absolute magnitude and the broad features suggest this maybe as early as ~2 weeks before maximum.
