Iair Arcavi report/s a classification of object: SN 2018xy

Type: SN Ia
Redshift: 0.03

Remarks: Iair Arcavi (UCSB/Las Cumbres Observatory), Mariusz Gromadzki, Lukasz Wyrzykowski (Warsaw University Astronomical Observatory), and David Buckley (SAAO) report a spectrum of AT 2018xy/ASASSN-18dk obtained on 2018 February 26.9 UT with the RSS mounted on the South African Large Telescope (SALT) at the South African Astronomical Observatory, under the SALT Large Programme on transients (2016-2-LSP-001).. Using Superfit (Howell et al. 2005, ApJ, 634, 1190) and SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024), we find reasonable fits to post-peak Type Ia supernovae at the redshift of the host galaxy (z~0.03; The 2MASS Redshift Survey via NED).
