Andrew Howell, Jaime Burke (UCSB/LCO)Global SN ProjectSN II0.002979Global SN ProjectWe report a FLOYDS spectrum obtained on 2018-03-06.4 UT with the robotic FLOYDS instrument mounted on the Las Cumbres Observatory 2-meter telescope on Haleakala, Hawai'i, in order to correct a previous classification of this object as a Type Ia-CSM supernova. The added resolution of the FLOYDS data compared to the spectrum reported previously clearly reveals the presence of narrow Balmer H emission lines atop a blue continuum, consistent with a young Type II supernova. Additional narrow emission features include He II 4686A and 5411A, C III 4648A, C IV 5801A, O III 3713A and 3749A, and possibly N III 4640A, similar to those seen in very early "flash spectra" of young Type II supernovae (e.g. Gal-Yam et al. 2014, Nature, 509, 471; Khazov et al. 2016, ApJ, 818, 3; Hosseinzadeh et al. 2018, arXiv: 1801.00015), and in early spectra of the peculiar Type II SN 1998S (e.g. Shivvers et al. 2015, ApJ, 806, 213). It is therefore still too early to classify this event as a Type IIn supernova (or as any other subcategory of the Type II class).2018TNSCR2082....1A

I agree with Dr. Yaron -- the P60 SED machine spectrum fits very nicely with the type IIn SN 1998S at early times, see attached from SNID.

but a type II Core-Collapse SN. 

Image was taken 2018-03-02 at 02:24:37, about 9.5 hours before the discovery image. Limiting magnitude was about 18.5. No apparent sign of anything new at that time.
