Jamison Burke, Iair Arcavi, Daichi Hiramatsu, D. Andrew Howell, Curtis McCully, Stefano Valenti report/s a classification of object: SN 2019np

Type: SN Ia
Redshift: 0.00452

Remarks: Using Superfit (Howell et al. 2005, ApJ, 634, 1190) and SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024), we find good fits to several young Type Ia supernovae at the redshift of the host galaxy (z=0.00452; value from NED but in agreement with fits). The apparent magnitude reported upon discovery by Koichi Itagaki on 2019-01-09 15:57:35 was 17.8 in the clear filter. Adopting the mean distance modulus of 32.2 from NED, this corresponds to an absolute magnitude of -14.4. We measure a Si II 6355 velocity of -16,000 km/s and a Ca II NIR triplet velocity of -20,000 km/s. The absolute magnitude and the broad high-velocity features suggest this maybe as early as ~2 weeks before maximum.
