The spectrum (390-990nm) was obtained on UT 2016 Jan. 12.3 with the LDSS3 mounted to the Clay telescope at Las Campanas Observatory. The object is similar to that of a type-II supernova at a few weeks post-explosion, clearly showing H-alpha and H-beta absorptions and strong Fe lines characteristic of this SN type. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ 666, 1024) gives a best match to SN 2006bp at +34 days since explosion. Correcting for the redshift of its host galaxy, PGC 26383 (0.011208), its expansion velocity is around 7780 km/s measured from the H-alpha absorption minimum.

Cross-correlation of the spectrum with a template library using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) shows a good match to the type-IIP SN 2014et at -3 days, confirming the results of Hosseinzadeh et al. (ATel 8748). The host redshift of z = 0.004 from numerous narrow interstellar emission lines yields an expansion velocity for the supernova of 10,700 km/s, measured to the trough of the H-alpha line. There is a star very close to the new transient point source. I do feel that the position is slightly different however it is possible that this is the same star. Follow up is recommended.

We also detect a broad absorption feature to the blue of H-alpha at 6215 Angstroms, which is seen in some spectra of young Type II SN and has been identified as the Si II 6355 feature. The velocity of this profile would be -6700 km/s if its Si II.

The new object doesn't appear to move on four diiferent images made during the search and a seach in MPChecker doesn't show any know asteroids of coments in the area. We tried to obtain remote control observations from Mexico and Australia but weather doesn't permit any. The place of the newly found object was searched also for stars from USNO A2 catalogue and nothing was recorded there as well. Astrometry calculations were made from the web page www.astrometry.net and the images were compared in Aladin java applet from CDS. I've searched throught the AT list in TNS and also the web page Bright Supernovae doesn't report any PSN in that area as well.

Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST). The spectrum of ASASSN-16gy shows a blue continuum and broad H Balmer lines in emission, consistent with a young Type II SN.

The spectrum is relatively flat in the continuum, and shows broad, P-Cygni profiles in Halpha, and Ca lines. The minimum of the absorption in Halpha is at a velocity of ~14,000 km/s, and the spectrum is consistent with a Type II SN a few weeks after explosion. The absolute magnitude (-17.5) is relatively bright for a Type IIP SN, but is consistent with other IIb SNe.

The spectrum shows broad (FWHM ~ 10000 km/s) Balmer lines and a blue continuum, consistent with a young Type II SN. From narrow H-alpha and [O III] 5007 lines, we measure a redshift of z=0.0266 for GALEXASC J215436.98-425103.9, the host galaxy of ASASSN-16ml.

The spectrum of AT2016iyy is that of a normal Type II SN in the plateau phase. A nebular emission line of Halpha from the host galaxy gives a redshift of z=0.0286.
