After removing the light contribution from the galaxy, the spectrum clearly resembled a Type II supernova. Its coordinates were introduced in the Open Supernova Catalog (https://sne.space) and we found a match to the supernova candidate PS15aiu. Pan-STARRS first detection was on 2015 May 2 and MaNGA observations took place on 2015 September 28, almost five months later.

462016-01-27 02:02:41lgalbanyLluís GalbanyNoneSN II0.0141From ATEL#8541: We report optical spectroscopy of the supernova candidate PSNJ 09195286-6854419. The spectrum (390-990nm) was obtained on UT 2016 Jan. 12.3 with the LDSS3 mounted to the Clay telescope at Las Campanas Observatory. The object is similar to that of a type-II supernova at a few weeks post-explosion, clearly showing H-alpha and H-beta absorptions and strong Fe lines characteristic of this SN type. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ 666, 1024) gives a best match to SN 2006bp at +34 days since explosion. Correcting for the redshift of its host galaxy, PGC 26383 (0.011208), its expansion velocity is around 7780 km/s measured from the H-alpha absorption minimum.
