The supernova is highly extinguished by its host galaxy, making a more precise phase estimate difficult.

The new object is located at R.A. 16h32m39.31s, Decl. +78d11m53.36s (equinox 2000.0), about 114” NW of the center of NGC 6217. The discovery image was posted temporarily at URL http://users.wirelessbeehive.com/~paw/what.jpg. Wiggins notes that nothing was visible at this position on an image taken on JAN 04.
