We measure the ejecta velocity to be roughly 24,000 km/s, consistent across features of CaII, MgII, FeII, SiII, and OI. This value is high even for a Ic-BL, but within the parameter space of previous samples (Modjaz et al. 2016, ApJ, 832, 108). We measure the redshift to be 0.032 based on narrow host galaxy hydrogen lines.

112016-01-15 14:44:40jujiajujia ZhangNoneSN Ia0.03071We report an optical spectrum (range 350-900 nm) of ASASSN-16aj (ATEL #8542, AT 2016K) obtained on UT 2016 Jan. 15.5 with the 2.4 m telescope ( LJT + YFOSC) at Lijiang observatory of Yunnan Observatories. The spectrum is consistent with a Type Ia supernova at around maximum light. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, ApJ. 666, 1024) shows that it matches with SN 2003du at t = -1 days. Adopting a redshift of 0.0307 for its host galaxy NGC 1562, an expansion velocity of about 11,500 km/s can be derived from the absorption minimum of Si II 635.5 nm.

Frank on UT 2016 March 14-15 with OSMOS (range 398-686 nm) mounted on the MDM 2.4m telescope at KPNO. We used SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) to aid with the type and phase of the SN spectra. ASASSN-16bx is a Type Ia SN about one month after peak brightness (best fit SNID template is SN1999gd at +34 days) and ASASSN-16cy is a normal Type Ia a couple days before maximum (best fit SNID template is SN2002de at -4 days). After correcting the spectrum of ASASSN-16cy for its host galaxy redshift (z=0.034811), we measure a expansion velocity from the Si II 635.5nm line of 12600 km/s.
