The MW extinction-corrected absolute magnitude at the discovery is about -15.0. We measure a Si II 6355 velocity of -15,000 km/s. The absolute magnitude and the broad features suggest this maybe as early as ~2 weeks before maximum.

FilippenkoLOSSSN IIP1LOSSWe report that a CCD spectrum (range 350-1050 nm) of AT2016cyw was obtained on Aug. 02.5 with the 3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast spectrograph) at Lick Observatory. The object was classified via cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "SuperNova IDentification" code (SNID; Blondin & Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) including the updated templates of Silverman et al. (2012 MNRAS, 425, 1789) and Liu & Modjaz (2014 arXiv:1405.1437). We find that AT2016cyw is a Type IIP supernova likely several months post-explosion. SNID identifies spectroscopic similarities to SNe 2004et and 2004dj. See Astronomer's Telegram #9309.

2282016-05-17 18:05:27DAO_OTSDave BalamDAO_OTSSN Ia0.0241DAO_OTSA spectrum of AT2016ccl (ref) was obtained using the 1.82-m Plaskett telescope (National Research Council of Canada) covering the range 367-710 nm (resolution 0.35 nm) on UT May 10.32 that reveals the object to be a type-Ia (normal) supernova several days past maximum light. Cross-correlation of the spectrum with a template library using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) has yielded a good fit to the type-Ia supernova 2002er at 3 days post-maximum light. The apparent host galaxy is IC 3895 with a published (SDSS 2006) redshift of 0.024. If we assume that the redshift is correct for the supernova then we measure an expansion velocity for the Si II (rest 635.5 nm) feature of 11,300 km/s.

2162016-05-09 18:16:56DAO_OTSDave BalamDAO_OTSSN IIP0.0181DAO_OTSA spectrum was obtained on UT May 09.36 of AT2016ccm in IC 983 using the 1.82-m Plaskett telescope (National Research Council of Canada) covering the range 365-710 nm (resolution 0.35 nm). Cross-correlation with a template library using SNID (Blondin & Tonry 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) shows AT2016ccm to be a core-collapse supernova approximately 1 week post maximum light. We find a fit to the template of (SN IIp) 2006bp at 7 days past maximum. Our solution yields a host redshift of z=0.017. The apparent host is IC983 with a published redshift (NED) of z=0.018.

Stanek (OSU) ASAS-SNSN II1ASAS-SNWe report optical spectroscopic observations of the ASAS-SN transients ASASSN-18am/AT2018gk, ASASN-18ao/AT2018gm, and ASASSN-18ap/AT2018gn (ATel #11178), obtained on UT 2018 Jan 14-16 with FAST (range 3600-7450 Angstroms) mounted on the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope. We used SNID (Blondin & Tonry, 2007, ApJ, 666, 1024) to aid with the type, phase and redshift determination. ASASSN-18ap shows broad H-alpha and other features characteristic of a Type II SN, also with strong host galaxy contamination.
